T. D. Mattox, a remarkable pencil artist and founder of the Art By Mattox brand, forged his artistic legacy from the confines of a prison cell. Despite spending nearly two decades behind bars, Mattox defied the odds and emerged as one of Atlanta, Georgia's premier urban pencil artists in 2019. His black and white pencil art prints have since adorned the walls of countless homes and businesses nationwide.
The visionary behind Art By Mattox, LLC, T. D. Mattox enlisted the help of his sons, transforming the company into one of Atlanta's leading art print establishments. Beyond his artistic pursuits, Mattox penned a self-help study guide, "Prisonaire: Building Success From A Prison Cell," showcasing the principles that propelled him to success even in the confines of prison. This insightful book is available on Amazon.com.
Mattox's journey has been marked by resilience, navigating the challenges of prison life, including encounters with gang violence and race riots. In 2017, he faced a life-threatening obstacle with a 95 percent blockage of a heart artery. Miraculously overcoming this health crisis, Mattox continued his artistic endeavors.
However, in November 6, 2023, Mattox confronted a new and daunting challenge—a brain tumor that triggered a massive seizure. Despite undergoing surgery to remove the tumor, he experienced temporary paralysis on the right side of his body, momentarily casting doubt on his art career. Yet, through unwavering faith and divine intervention, Mattox's paralysis gradually receded.
In the face of adversity, Mattox shared profound words with his doctor, declaring, "I'm living proof that God is with us. If you trust in Him, He will never fail you." His enduring spirit and artistic talent have left an indelible mark, proving that resilience, faith, and artistic passion can triumph over the most formidable obstacles.
